Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what installers, lighting designers and homeowners ask us most.
How it works
Does Wise Controls use Wi-Fi?
No. The platform runs on radio frequency (RF) — independent of your home Wi-Fi or broadband. It continues working during internet outages.
What's the maximum range?
Wise receivers have an extended range suitable for whole-home and large garden installs. Typical line-of-sight range is around 30 metres; through walls is shorter but still covers most domestic plans.
Will it interfere with my Wi-Fi or DECT phone?
No. Wise operates on a dedicated RF band that doesn't overlap with the 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands or DECT cordless phones.
Installation
Does it need a qualified electrician?
Wireless transmitters (keypads, remotes, PIRs) can be installed by a competent person — no mains work. Receivers and dimmers wire into the mains and must be installed by a qualified electrician.
Do I need special programming software?
No. Pairing is done with button presses on the receiver and transmitter — no laptop, hub or app required.
How long does an install take?
A typical receiver-and-keypad pair goes live in under 10 minutes. Multi-circuit Scene installs take longer because you're storing scene levels — usually under 30 minutes per scene controller.
Can I add to an existing Wise install?
Yes — any new Wise receiver or transmitter pairs into the existing system. Wise Box receivers, Scene controllers and Fusion dimmers all share the same RF platform regardless of generation.
Compatibility
Which lighting types does it control?
Single-colour LED, mains halogen / GLS, low-voltage LED with compatible driver, tunable white (CCT), RGBW, and digital LED tape. See the Wise Box, Fusion and Chameleon catalogues for per-product compatibility.
Does it integrate with smart home systems?
Yes — the Wise Daisy hub bridges the RF system to Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and the Wise Daisy smartphone app. The Wise RS232 Interface integrates with Control4, Crestron, Lutron and other AV systems.
Will it work with my existing dimmer?
Replace the existing wired dimmer with a Wise Fusion master. The Fusion works as a standalone wired dimmer immediately, and accepts wireless slave keypads later — so you can upgrade gradually.
